Double Duck! Wheeled excavators to the feathered kind

In the heart of our community, a unique initiative has taken flight in Thirsk. A dedicated group of local residents has banded together as “Duck Wardens” to protect a flock of around 30 ducks that have made Thirsk’s Market Square their nightly roost. And we’re proud to say that some of Potter Plant Hire’s own team members, who are usually busy working with “ducks” of the wheeled excavator kind, are volunteering their time to keep these feathered ducks safe.

The Duck Wardens have been on duty each morning and evening to safeguard the ducks from the dangers of traffic and night-time disturbances. Using traffic cones and tape, the wardens create safe zones in the car park, preventing the ducks from wandering into the roads and guiding them back to safety when needed. Highlighting that whether on wheels or webbed feet, safety always comes first.

The efforts of the Duck Wardens have been a phenomenal show of community spirit, and we’re honoured to see our staff contribute, showing our commitment to Thirsk both on and off the job.
